UiPath: Orchestration is key to scaling agentic AI deployments

UiPath, a business orchestration and automation provider, has found that while enterprises have initial proof-of-concept for their agentic deployments, many remain stuck in that pilot phase, struggling in purgatory as it were to scale those deployments and find a path forward to meaningful return on investment (ROI).

The insight is part of a new global report on the state of agentic AI deployments, coding agents, and business orchestration surveying nearly 600 C-suite and IT practitioners at large companies (US$1 B+ in revenue). According to the Beyond Adoption: Orchestrating the Agentic Enterprise report, fewer than a third (31%) of respondents reported that AI is fully embedded in their business. A closer look at those using AI showed that 35% have adopted AI on a limited basis among select teams, while 11% are stuck in pilot mode doing limited experimentation.

When asked to identify the challenges when optimising deployments, these enterprise leaders identified a few common hurdles in their agentic AI adoptions, namely:

- Data quality and readiness (named by 38% of respondents)

- Integration of agentic AI with existing workflows and systems (37%)

- Governance and compliance (33%)

“The gaps between experimentation and enterprise deployment are known, and often come down to data, integration, and governance challenges, and the necessary enterprise context, that keep ROI out of reach,” said Raghu Malpani, Chief Product and Technology Officer at UiPath.

“Resolving these challenges depends almost entirely on solving those three things. To begin, build an understanding of where the application of agentic AI can deliver the most value. From there, focus on the missing layer of business orchestration as the connector between data, systems, workflows, people, and agents.

"And finally, make sure built-in governance and compliance are built-in as guardrails. Together, these three factors will close those gaps allow for scaling AI across the enterprise.”

The survey data points to business orchestration as the key to unlocking value and scale. For those respondents that report they’ve fully embedded orchestration capabilities across their enterprise, 89% said their agentic implementations have aligned with or overperformed their ROI expectations. Among the specific benefits, enterprises report the below as key benefits:

-  Increased time for employees to spend on higher-value tasks (51%)

- Increasing integration among applications (47%)

- Improving oversight of business workflows (44%)

- Increasing responsiveness to customers (42%)

- Automation of complex business workflows (37%)

Added Malpani: “Orchestration serves as the foundation for agentic deployments, connecting agents with the data and systems they need to operate effectively, along with automation to execute and humans to oversee. Those who prioritise orchestration will surge ahead because they’ll be able to ensure agents work within existing processes and guardrails to create real enterprise impact.”

According to the survey, the next 12 months are set to be a period of substantial growth for AI agents in the enterprise. More than one in three respondents (36%) expect agents to play a significant role in enterprise workflows during that time, indicating agents will be involved in a variety of business processes.

When asked about the type of workflows their organisations would be most focused on applying AI to in the next 12 months, the majority (52%) of respondents said that they were applying AI to hybrid workflows, which combine static and dynamic processes.

While hybrid workflows introduce an additional level of complexity, orchestration enables the processes involved to work together in a cohesive workflow. Yet only 29% of organisations say that orchestration is fully embedded in their workflows. The enterprises who prioritise orchestration will set themselves up for success in the next agentic era, UiPath concluded.

*The report describes a survey that polled 590 C-suite and IT practitioners at companies with annual revenue of at least US$1 B (excluding public sector organisations), and a minimum of 1,000 employees in the US, the UK, France, Germany, India, and Singapore. The online survey was conducted between May 25 and June 8, 2026.
