Gamification is more than just tech talk

Image
by Mayank Agarwal, Co-Founder and CTO, Hubilo Source: Hubilo. Agarwal. Borne out of necessity rather than convenience, technology has transposed events to the virtual space to mitigate the risks that come with unpredictability. In doing so, organisations have discovered a virtual medium in which to express their creativity to connect people and deliver memorable experiences, albeit from the convenience of home. This renaissance in event planning creativity has also resulted in more awareness of the impacts that event tech can have in a broader strategic sense beyond just the number of attendees and audience satisfaction. With the advent of event tech, organisations are beginning to harness the data that comes from tracking every click and chat on the event and distilling meaningful insights that drive revenue, demand generation, and brand growth while fighting disengagement. Among the many solutions, gamification stands out as an ultimate fatigue buster, fundamentally addressing...

Singapore trends in using edtech for adult education

A study has found that adult educators have learned how to deliver online lesson content more effectively with the help of modern online teaching and learning tools (edtech). The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL) recently conducted a survey among 139 adult educators focusing on edtech to find out how they can develop best practices for planning future lessons and training initiatives. Some of the findings include the top tools used by instructors ( Zoom, YouTube and Canvas ), and the challenges adult educators face, including the inadequate awareness of appropriate tools, limited budgets and the extra time needed to incorporate such tools into lessons. Research highlights include: Using edtech in online lessons The majority of IAL instructors (84%) were motivated to adopt edtech to convey information more effectively during lessons. - Roughly one in three (31%) of IAL instructors agree that online lessons can just as...

Why backups, recovery and security are all part of the same story

World Backup Day falls on March 31 every year, reminding businesses about the importance of backing up their data. But the backup story is not only about backup; businesses must also be aware that they should look beyond backup per se, according to industry observers. Source: Trend Micro. Ng. David Ng, Country Manager for Singapore at Trend Micro said: "Data is constantly on the move. Not to mention, threat actors are hungrier for our valuable data. That is why CISOs and CIOs invest millions of dollars in tools, solutions, and processes for data backup, security, and protection." "When disasters occur, organisations suffer. That is why they see backups, recovery, and security of data and systems as crucial for business continuity," agreed Stephen McNulty, President Asia Pacific and Japan, Micro Focus. Raymond Tan, VP, Syniti Data Replication, Asia Pacific and Japan added: "Business operations have changed drastically in the last few years, with empl...

Disrupting storytelling with AI

Gadney speaks in a virtual session at GTC 2022 . When artificial intelligence (AI) drives content, every interaction becomes unique. Virtual production, traditional media, and video games are converging around AI to create dynamic narrative worlds, according to Guy Gadney, CEO and Co-founder, Charisma Entertainment. Speaking at NVIDIA's GTC 2022 , Gadney first described how travelling minstrels moved from town to town to tell stories that changed with the latest news and audience reactions, then pointed out that while content could reach the masses with the printing press, it also meant that there could only be one version of the story at a time - a practice that has by and large continued to the present. With new technology, we are now returning to the traditional narrative story, he said. "You are now a player in stories, able to talk to characters and be understood by them with new natural language processing," he said. Charisma Entertainment's solution, curr...

Don’t lose your holiday cheer to cybercriminals

by Chua Chee Pin, Area VP, ASEAN, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Commvault Cybercriminals launching ransomware attacks can be relentless in their approach. They do not rest even when most of us are taking a break during major holidays. In fact, cybercriminals may be even more active during these times to jump on opportunities when people let their guards down. Cybercriminals are like house burglars trying to break in, steal your valuables (your data in this case) and ruin your holiday. The good news is that we all know what it takes to protect our homes from burglars – in the same way, you can be ready to defend your critical business data against attacks too. Here is how you can protect your data against ransomware attacks and never be caught off-guard: Burglar alarms as the first line of defense A simple defense implemented by many households comes in the form of burglar alarms. In the tech world, this translates into common countermeasures to ransomware including antivirus, antimalwar...
