Upgraded tech stacks needed for the future of work: APAC organisations

Image
Zoom has released Navigating the Future of Work: Global Perspectives on Hybrid Models and Technology , a survey* which has found that productivity is now the top priority for Asia-Pacific (APAC) organisations when it comes to work styles.  Eighty-seven percent of leaders in APAC considered increasing productivity to be the biggest consideration when determining the best working style for their company, surpassing sentiment in North America (NA, 86%) and 81% in Western Europe. Launched at Zoom's EX Summit 2024 in Asia Pacific, the study found that the majority of organisations in APAC are embracing flexible working arrangements, with 84% of organisations adopting either a hybrid (58%) or remote (26%) working model. The study further found that employees feel most productive in hybrid settings, with 83% of employees in the region agreeing they get more work done in a hybrid/remote setting than in-office/onsite. Zoom noted that having the right technology in place to keep the w...

Flexiv introduces the Moonlight adaptive delta robot

Flexiv, a general-purpose robotic solutions provider, will be debuting its Moonlight parallel robot at the 37th Taipei International Robotics and Automation Show (TAiROS) . Designed as a cost-effective solution for tasks that require translational motion and force control, Moonlight is ideal for high-precision, force-sensitive tasks that do not require the seven degrees of freedom found in Flexiv's Rizon series. With three degrees of freedom, a 7 kg load capacity, a tool centre point (TCP) line speed of 1.5 m/s, and an IP 65 protection rating, Moonlight is ideal for production line operations. TAiROS runs from August 21 to 24, 2024 in Taipei.

Lightstorm announces world’s first L0/L1 network-as-a-service

Lightstorm, a cloud and data centre connectivity solution provider in South Asia, has announced Polarin DCI Wave , a Layer 1 (physical/optical layer)-dedicated connectivity product which is now offered through its Polarin Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform. FiberSmart, a provider of robotic fibreoptic switching solutions is collaborating with Lightstorm to transform the way enterprises acquire and manage layer 1 (physical/optical layer) connectivity. Typically a long-drawn and cumbersome process, it can now be as simple as point, click and consume, Lightstorm said.  Traditionally, in layer 1 connectivity the physical installation and management of fibreoptic cables has been done manually, so it is prone to human error and delays. With Polarin DCI Wave, enterprises and hyperscalers can self-provision optical layer connectivity in under 10 minutes across more than 60 of the top data centres in India through using robotic arms at the data centre to automate the entire layer 1 conn...

Globe invests in Red Hat OpenShift to scale up on customer experience

Globe is modernising its IT infrastructure with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs for greater agility, scalability and innovation that will ultimately help Globe deliver a better customer experience.  During the Open Innovations Lab residency, Globe's engineers worked closely with Red Hat to integrate open source technologies including Red Hat OpenShift, the hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes , DevOps methodologies and innovative practices including an immersive approach to help Globe tackle challenges in operational efficiency, developer productivity, observability, upsk illing and cross-team collaboration.  Through this collaboration, the Globe teams migrated the first application modules to Red Hat OpenShift faster, and quickly learned to fully utilise its features, created a cross-functional team and established new operational processes. This laid the groundwork for scaling up the platform and migrating the first full application to Red Hat OpenShift over ...

Unravelling the democratisation of AI

Image
by Gibu Mathew, VP & GM, APAC, Zoho   Concept artwork of AI generated by Blue Willow . Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool with the potential to revolutionise various industries. However, one significant challenge hindering its widespread adoption is the lack of specialised knowledge and resources required for its development.  As the industry recognises this obstacle, the concept of democratising AI has gained traction, aiming to remove barriers and make AI accessible to all. In this article, we will explore the importance of democratising AI, and the risks associated with advanced AI technologies.  The democratisation of AI refers to the movement towards making AI development and usage more inclusive, where individuals without specialised knowledge can contribute and benefit from AI advancements. Leading corporations are championing this initiative by providing open-source datasets and algorithms through various collaboration platforms. Addit...

Mobile app developers need to protect SDKs

Chris Roeckl, Chief of Product, Appdome, shares trends for the mobile app economy: What's mobile app usage like today? Mobile apps are fully entrenched in the daily lives of consumers. In fact, in the 4th edition of Appdome’s Global Consumer Survey on Mobile App Security , the preference for mobile apps is at the highest level ever. Fifty-five percent (55.3%) of global consumers say they use mobile applications more than web, dwarfing preference for online/web at 22.5%.  Furthermore, 63.4% of consumers globally — again the highest level ever — say that they use more than six mobile apps weekly. It’s clear that mobile apps have become more interconnected due to the increasing reliance on various transaction systems, APIs, and third-party services that facilitate seamless user experiences.  Consumers now expect their apps to provide a cohesive and integrated experience, whether it's for payments, social media, or other daily tasks. This interconnectedness is driven by the need t...
