Siloam Hospitals accelerates digital transformation and AI-driven innovation with AWS Cloud

Siloam Hospitals is transforming how care is delivered, giving doctors more time with patients, reducing administrative burdens for nurses, and improving access to quality healthcare for nearly 2 million Indonesians.

As the country’s largest private hospital network, Siloam International Hospitals is setting the benchmark for how digital innovation can create real, system-wide impact across Indonesia’s healthcare landscape. The organisation, which manages a network of 41 hospitals with a team of some 12,000 staff, is conducting its digital transformation through a combination of advanced technologies, modern infrastructure, and data-driven innovation.

From the frontlines of emergency rooms to the backend of hospital operations, Siloam is modernising its IT systems, building intelligent applications, and improving efficiencies that empower healthcare professionals to focus on patient care. Cloud services, including those from Amazon Web Services (AWS), have been key to supporting this journey.

Siloam has migrated its mission-critical workloads, including hospital information systems, electronic medical records, billing platforms, and the MySiloam digital app, to AWS Cloud. This move has standardised operations, enabled real-time data access, improved system resilience, and created a foundation for AI innovation at scale.

Key AWS services underpinning this transformation include:

- Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) for core app deployment with auto-scaling and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) orchestration,

Amazon RDS Aurora and Amazon ElastiCache for high-performance, secure, and resilient data processing, and

- Amazon EventBridge to streamline communication across Siloam’s microservices using event-driven architecture.

Siloam has deployed two AI-powered solutions on this infrastructure:

- Auto-Summarization of Medical Records: Assists doctors by generating concise, structured notes from clinical interactions, improving documentation efficiency and accuracy.

- AI for Inventory Management: Leverages AI to automate data capture in inventory processes.

These applications reflect Siloam’s broader vision to responsibly integrate AI into healthcare operations.

Looking ahead, the organisation is exploring additional opportunities in areas such as operational forecasting, patient engagement, and clinical decision support—always with the intent to improve service quality and system performance.

“Digital transformation is not just about systems, it’s about impact,” said Caroline Riady, CEO of Siloam Hospitals Group.

“With AWS, we are reimagining how healthcare works in Indonesia. We’re giving time back to our doctors, clarity to our decisions, and better outcomes for our patients. This is what modern healthcare should look like.”

Beyond AI, Siloam’s modernisation is supported by AWS services such as AWS Lambda, which enables serverless backend automation, AWS Backup for centralised, compliant data protection, and AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS) to ensure rapid, cost-efficient business continuity across its hospital network.

By decommissioning legacy infrastructure and consolidating onto AWS Cloud, Siloam has also aligned its operations with long-term sustainability goals, lowering energy consumption, reducing carbon emissions, and optimising IT investments.

“At AWS, our priority is helping organisations like Siloam Hospitals harness the power of the cloud and generative AI to modernise operations, drive innovation, and ultimately deliver better outcomes for the communities they serve,” said Anthony Amni, Country Manager, AWS Indonesia.

“We’re proud to support Siloam’s leadership in Indonesia’s healthcare sector as they build a digital-first, AI-enabled healthcare system designed to improve patient care at a national scale.”
