Colt Technology Services expands network in Sydney
Colt Technology Services, a global digital infrastructure company, is expanding its optical network in Sydney, Australia with direct network access to approximately 250 commercial buildings and more than 20 data centres in the city. The news follows the expansion of Colt's business in six Southeast Asian countries in June 2024.
Colt had previously relied on OLO partners (other licensed operators) to support local access services in Sydney. It can now provide its service end-to-end on its digital infrastructure. This benefits customers in terms of improved lead times for service delivery, better manageability and control over its network for improved customer experience, and more competitive pricing, the company said.
The expansion aims to meet rapidly rising demand for bandwidth, as well as the growing need for on-demand services and network flexibility and businesses with high-bandwidth requirements linked to AI, machine learning (ML), fintech and big data. Colt will be offering metro connectivity up to 400 Gbps, and international connectivity up to 10 Gbps.
Buddy Bayer, COO, Colt Technology Services, said: “In Asia, the B2B network services market in the region is currently forecast to grow at a five-year average CAGR of 9.80% from 2022 to 2027*, higher than that of Europe (8.41%) and the US (7.05%). The expansion of our network in Sydney, strategically positioned in the Pacific region, will support this growth and will give momentum to our Asian strategy.”
Yasutaka Mizutani, President of the Asia Pacific region, Colt, stated: “We have established a unique position by providing our vertical solution, MarketPrizm, to capital market clients in the stock exchange and financial industry in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Based on this expansion into the Sydney metropolitan area, we hope to contribute our network and services to A-end and B-end** customers in the region who are looking to expand their business from Sydney to overseas, or from overseas to Sydney, Australia.”
Colt will focus on customer acquisition and service delivery in Sydney from now on. From 1 December 2024, Colt will start promoting its own network services, such as Dark Fibre, Wave, Ethernet, IP Access, Dedicated Cloud Access, On-Demand, IPVPN, and SD-WAN in the Sydney metropolitan area, and will be ready to deliver services from March, 2025 onwards.
Colt launched its international service to Sydney in 2018, and further
optimised its network in August 2022 to provide significantly reduced
latency between the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in Sydney and the
Singapore Exchange (SGX) to 87 milliseconds, which was considered the
fastest in the industry at the time. Colt anticipates that by 2028, around 300 global customers will benefit from the new infrastructure.
*GlobalData Market Opportunity Forecasts to 2027: Networking Market: Ethernet MAN/WAN Services, Ethernet Private Line Services, Fiber Optic (FTTH/B), IP/MPLS VPN, Managed Network Services, SD-WAN, Site-to-Site VPN, Other Communication Services.
**A-end; The areas where the carrier excels. B-end: The opposite side's region or base.
