Synology introduced data storage and management solutions, a dedicated backup appliance with advanced security features, AI camera options, and AI-powered productivity tools at Synology Solution Day 2024 earlier this month in Singapore.
The ActiveProtect series simplifies deployment and sizing challenges, enabling protection for up to 2,500 multiserver environments across multisite or multinational IT infrastructures. ActiveProtect appliances are purpose-built backup systems designed to protect business-critical infrastructure. These appliances are optimised for high performance and data-efficient backups, and come with features like scalable multisite management, data immutability, and air-gap support.
Fast deployment options make it easy to integrate these appliances into both edge and data centre environments. Multiple configurations are available, allowing for seamless storage tiering with cloud or on-premises Synology storage solutions.
The system's ability to scale with additional ActiveProtect units facilitates load balancing and centralised management. Designed to meet the demands of modern big data workloads, ActiveProtect appliances utilise optimised storage tiering and source-side deduplication, dramatically reducing storage capacity and network bandwidth usage. This ensures that backups can run during business hours without disrupting daily operations, while flexible retention, recovery, and data integrity options provide a wide range of data protection plans.
For high-capacity, non-disruptive data management, the new Scale-out Solution supports both file and object storage and performance growth when adding additional storage servers.
Synology also introduced its C2 Surveillance Station, a secure, direct-to-cloud video surveillance solution with edge AI and multilayer encryption, providing secure and efficient monitoring for environments without local recording servers. The system includes a lineup of C2 cameras that can be set up in under three minutes. This capability is particularly beneficial for monitoring challenging environments where traditional local recording servers may be impractical.
Both privacy and security are prioritised. The system features simple and centralised web-based management, making it easy to oversee multiple cameras and surveillance activities from a single platform.
Synology's productivity tool, Office Suite was updated as well, featuring generative AI capabilities to enhance collaboration and streamline document management workflows.
"Over the past two years in Singapore, Synology has witnessed a remarkable growth in the market. Through our wide range of products, businesses of all sizes from the small/medium businesses to enterprises across industries have been served. Notable successes in media, manufacturing, and education industries underscores our achievements in meeting the evolving needs of the modern business landscape,” said Antoine Yang, Country Manager, Singapore, Synology.
Gan Gay Hiong, Senior Manager (ICT Operations), LASALLE College of the Arts said: “Synology comprehensive storage systems fits perfectly to meet modern data storage requirements including vast digital archives and 4K video storage for faculty projects.” He emphasised that Synology’s easy-to-administer solutions and scalable infrastructure allowed Lasalle to seamlessly expand its data management capabilities, empowering the institution to focus on academic excellence without being overwhelmed by storage needs.
“Synology’s Surveillance Station is an excellent platform that made multisite surveillance management easier than ever. Centralized Management System (CMS) allowed us to manage all footage of all 17 stores from multiple servers on a single portal. With the use of DVA series, we are able extend storage capabilities to explore more advanced AI-powered analytics such as people-counting to generate business insights,” shared Yadah Yang, the Chief of Marketing & Technology Officer at I Love Taimei, a food and beverage brand.
