OpenAI rolls out GPT-5

OpenAI has announced GPT‑5, a new model which delivers advanced accuracy, speed, reasoning, context recognition, structured thinking, and problem-solving.

The company stated that GPT-5 is "a unified system that knows when to respond quickly and when to think longer to provide expert-level responses. GPT‑5 also feels more natural and thoughtful, with clearer, more accurate responses and fewer hallucinations. This release builds on years of progress in reasoning, multimodality, and safety. It brings frontier capabilities to everyone, while maintaining clear safety measures and rigorous evaluation standards."

According to OpenAI, GPT‑5 unites and exceeds OpenAI’s prior breakthroughs in frontier intelligence, spanning 4o, OpenAI o-series reasoning, agents, and advanced math capabilities. Feature highlights include:

Reliability and accuracy

Fewer hallucinations. Delivers more accurate answers than any previous reasoning model.

Safe completions, a new feature

Rather than refusing or complying based on the user’s prompt, the model gives the most helpful response as possible within safety boundaries, and provides clear explanations when it can’t assist.

Coding

GPT-5 is OpenAI's strongest coding model. It’s also great at frontend design, and can easily create beautiful and functional websites, apps, and games – even for those who don't know how to code.

Writing

GPT-5 is more precise, more adaptable to context, and more useful for real workflows.

Health

GPT-5 is more proactive at flagging potential concerns and asking questions, and can help users understand results, ask the providers the right questions, and weigh options when decisions are made, while not replacing a medical professional.

OpenAI disclosed that ChatGPT business products have 5 million paid users. Its customers include Figma, Morgan Stanley, and SoftBank. The launch of GPT‑5 also coincides with nearly 700 million people using ChatGPT weekly, while 4 million developers have built on the OpenAI API platform.

GPT-5 is available free to all users. GPT‑5 is starting to roll out to Team users, with access for Enterprise and Edu coming next. Team, Enterprise, and Edu customers will also get access to GPT‑5 Pro, a version with extended reasoning for even more reliable and detailed answers.

GPT‑5 is already available in the OpenAI API today, and developers can start using it at http://platform.openai.com
