Collins Aerospace, ADCC and AEROTHAI sign MoU to enhance safety and efficiency

● First-time GLOBALink partnership will go beyond air-to-ground communications

● Companies will combine legacy systems with new enhancements to create collaborative decision-making environment

Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies, is teaming up with its GLOBALink partners – Aviation Data Communication Corporation (ADCC) and Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Limited (AEROTHAI) – to enhance safety and efficiency for flight and tarmac operations in Asia.

The three companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to leverage each partner's existing technology to provide communication solutions to stakeholders on the tarmac.

For more than two decades, Collins Aerospace, ADCC and AEROTHAI have partnered to provide the industry standard for crisp, clear communications between flight and ground crews across the globe. Equipped with a vision to now provide datacentric solutions for the tarmac, the partnership stands to transform the efficiency of airports, airlines, ground handlers and air traffic controllers.

“We recognised an opportunity to utilise sensors on tarmac ground service equipment for usage tracking, predictive maintenance and even monitoring speed and safety in critical areas where airplanes may be parked,” explains Clotilde Enel-Rehel, GM, Commercial Aviation & Network Services for Collins Aerospace.

“That’s just one example of how this partnership will create a connected tarmac, and in turn, enable true schedule optimisation.”

Another example is enabling ground communications to help guide an aircraft to their gate during foggy weather when the air traffic control tower isn’t able to assist.

“Communication is critical in the aviation industry, and not just for those in the air or in the tower,” explained SomnukRongthong, President of AEROTHAI.

“By creating a more connected environment we help airports digitally transform through technology and automation – futureproofing their operations for years to come."

“Together we are able to do something no other company can do,” said Dr Zhu Yanbo, VP, ADCC.

“By connecting the entire airport ecosystem, we are able to help our customers achieve a safer and more efficient process that air traffic management, airports, airlines and ground handlers want and need.”

ADDC is a joint venture with investments from the Air Traffic Management Bureau of CAAC and key airlines, including Air China, China Eastern and China Southern. ADCC is also the only datalink service provider in China.

AEROTHAI is a state enterprise founded in 1948 to provide air traffic control and aeronautical communication services for airline operations. The company provides aerodrome and approach control services at all commercial airports in Thailand.

Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies, provides advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. United Technologies provides high technology systems and services to the building and aerospace industries.
